Tunnel Hacking

Written by The Naib

In college my friends and I spend many a fun hour romping around the tunnels on campus. Seems we were not the only ones that enjoyed such things. Read more here.

Well If Americans Are Allowed To Do It…

So it seems we are not the only ones torturing people in secret prisons in Iraq. A secret torture prison was found in Iraq. Great.

secret Iraq prison

I am sure this is going to help the civil war in Iraq heat right up.

People are arrested and disappear for months. Bodies appear every week of men, and sometimes women, executed with their hands tied behind their backs. Some have been grotesquely mutilated with knives and electric drills before their deaths.

White Phosphorus Not Enough Try Thermobaric Explosives Instead

Written by The Naib

So a while ago I posted about the use of white phosphorus on the people of Fallujahuja. You know napalm. Now the marines have this crazy new weapon that ignites the very air! and makes a big mess. Nice if you want to blow up a bunker. Too bad we are using it in cities with lots of innocent people around. Oops.

Read the makers little flyer here

The rational for this approach was straightforward:
“Marines could employ blast weapons prior to entering houses that had become pillboxes, not homes. The economic cost of house replacement is not comparable to American lives…all battalions adopted blast techniques appropriate to entering a bunker, assuming you did not know if the bunker was manned.”

boom

But in an era of precision bombs, where collateral damage is expected to be kept to a minimum, such massively brutal weapons have become highly controversial. These days, every civilian casualty means a few more “hearts and minds” are lost. Thermobaric weapons almost invariable lead to civilian deaths. The Soviet Union was heavily criticized for using thermobaric weapons in Afghanistan because they were held to constitute “disproportionate force,” and similar criticisms were made when thermobarics were used in the Chechen conflict. According to Human Rights Watch, thermobaric weapons “kill and injure in a particularly brutal manner over a wide area. In urban settings it is very difficult to limit the effect of this weapon to combatants, and the nature of FAE explosions makes it virtually impossible for civilians to take shelter from their destructive effect.”

Well I Could Do That

In an effort to cover everything that could come up job posting have gone to new levels to make sure they get just the person they want. This showed up in my email. Points for anyone who can figure out what job this is for.

Hey look bush see how Condi plays nice and gets things done WITHOUT WAR!!!! Now you try. Thats a good boy. Seriously we need a lot more diplomacy and a lot less war, guns, and bombs. Condi managed in an all night diplomacy marathon to get an agreement between the Jews and the Arabs. Lets just hope this sort of things continues.

FDA Now A Faith Based Agency

Written by The Naib

So it looks like the FDA (the Faith Decides All administration formerly the Food And Drug administration) decided months before the actual hearing that the over the counter status of the morning after pill wouldn’t be approved. Basically making the decision without looking at any facts. Its good to know that crazy right wing religious nuts now choose what drugs are good, and you know, not science or something silly like that. When are we going to go back to using leeches to remove the “bad spirits” from people. Perhaps teenage women who want the morning after pill are really witches and we should start burning them at the stake. Do you see where I am going with this. With the fight against teaching evolution, and the highest members of our government controlled by superstitious morons, we could so easily go back to the bad old days when faith and not science decided things.

Alito, Firmly Against The Right To Choose

Written by The Naib

A vote for Alito is a vote against the right to choose. Its that simple. Documents show he is a “judicial activist” and desires to use the court to move this country to the right.

Say Hello To My Little Friend

Written by The Naib

Welcome to tropical depression 27 soon to be tropical storm GAMMA!! With late November tornados ripping up the Midwest, and 24(!!!) named storms, so far, I would say its fare to assume that global warming is at least helping to fuel all this mania. It may not be the cause of any of it, and I understand the Atlantic cycle blah blah blah, the fact is warm air and warm water fuel these events, you also have to consider that (relatively) warmer air in winter will lead to more snow, as warm air can hold more moisture, so look for a lot of blizzards and snow storms this year. Combine rising heating costs with lots of snow = lots of dead people. Or at the least a lot of hungry/cold people depending on what is more important to that family.
