Odo - Sony’s New Line Of Human Powered Electronic Devices

I have a vision of the future, one in which all consumer devices are designed with cradle to grave consideration of their recycling, solar powered, and human powered. With their new Odo series of gadgets Sony has been nice enough to start down that road for me.

All of these devices are charged by human motion. Either by running it over the table like thous old race car toys, or by putting your finger into a hole and spinning the device, or by turning a crank. Never again will you suffer from a low battery on your digital camera, just twirls it around your finger a couple of times and you are back in action. In fact I can imagine that there is a market for a camera that doesn’t have a battery at all, simply a capacitor that you have to charge up between shots. Something cheap and simple you could give a child, or take on vacation.
As of right now these are just concept items, but it’s only a matter of time before every electronic device comes with a built in solar panel, or a crank, or a roller ball, or foot pedal, some sort of human regenerative device. The era of the one time use battery is quickly coming to an end and I for one welcome our new renewable energy overlords.
