Coal: Cheap Abundant Cheap

This is a great parody of the coal industry. It is simply dripping of the same green washing irony that so many companies are rolling out now and days. These companies use the same kind of tactics to try and convince people that their otherwise dirty industry is now shiny and green because they have done some small token action.

for an example of a company doing this, see GE. They spent millions on their ecomagination campaign, while continuing to support coal fired power plants.

Don’t get me wrong, I am happy that GE is throwing up thousands of wind turbines, I just don’t want them to pretend they are a green company. They are doing what will make them money, and for the foreseeable future that is going to be both renewable energy and coal. (takes you to an excellent example of “greening” up what is in essence a filthy technology read with a skeptical eye)

  1. These wind ads are exactly the same as nPower/RWE are doing in the UK. Again, they are putting up lots of wind turbines, but also pushing for coal plants to remain and be built. Strangely, their own web site says: “There is little doubt that one of the causes of climate change is the emission of large volumes of the main greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide (CO2), created by burning fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal. ” (http://www.npowerrenewables.com/whyrenew/climatechange.asp)

So what do they do? Get people arrested for trying stop the dumping of toxic ash into a lake and trying to save trees being felled by RWE contractors (http://earth-blog.bravejournal.com/entry/22804).

    Not schizophrenic at all!

    K.
