It is a shame that we actually put to a vote the equality of people in this country. Inalienable human rights don’t get put to a vote! If you are part of any group that has ever been unpopular (Jews, Italians, Irish, Germans, women, people of color, poor people, etc), imagine for a moment if your right to freedom of speech was put up for a vote, it might be ok today, but select the correct slice of history and you would most likely not have freedom of speech.

Equality is not something we vote on, everyone is equal, period.
