The Older Generation Doesn’t Get It, Young People Don’t Care Who Is Gay

This video isn’t interesting, it shows a right wing blow hard showing just how ignorant he is. Pretty standard right wing stuff. What is interesting about this video is where I found it. On a young person’s Tumblr blog. It was followed by hundreds of comments all of them from other young people, all of them expressing the same point of view. Gay people, are people, and Bill is a moron.

The vast majority of young people think being gay is nothing special, just like having brown hair.

You can basically see the trend here, the farther away from the deep south, and the further from old age, the more you accept gays and lesbians as real actual people (with rights).

You see young people consistently supporting in large numbers politicians who favor gay rights. You also have the fastest growing minority group (Latinos) moving away from the republicans in large numbers (because of the anti-migrant hysteria, even though they both tend to be conservative socially). So if they lose the young people, and they lose the Latino vote, and they have already lost the black vote, and they have a hard time with the women vote, who do the republicans have left? Old, angry white guys.

The problem with the old angry white guy strategy is that old angry white guys are not going to be around for very much longer (especially not with the Republicans trying to privatize social security and Medicaid.) The republican party and old conservatives in general are making a devils bargain for short term gains that will not serve them well in the long run.

I really hope young people and progressive people can overlook what they expected from the president, and instead look at what will happen if they don’t vote this November. If we don’t continue to support our progressive ideals, if we don’t continue to support science based legislation, if we don’t continue to push to make the world better we are going to roll right back down into the swamp that George W. and friends put us into for the last decade.
